Author Guidelines

To ensure consistency, clarity, and academic quality across all published articles, the Journal of Aisyiyah Studies provides a standardized manuscript structure that authors are expected to follow when preparing their submissions. This template is designed to help authors present their research in a clear, systematic, and academically rigorous manner while facilitating the peer review and editorial processes.

The structure reflects widely accepted conventions in international scholarly publishing and supports the journal’s commitment to publishing high-quality research that contributes to theoretical and empirical debates on Progressive Womanhood and gendered social transformation. By following this template, authors can effectively communicate their research objectives, methodological approaches, findings, and scholarly contributions to an international academic audience.

Authors are encouraged to carefully organize their manuscripts according to the sections described below. While minor variations may be acceptable depending on the nature of the research, the overall structure should remain consistent to maintain readability, comparability across articles, and adherence to the journal’s publication standards.

Title

The title of the manuscript should clearly reflect the central theme and argument of the study while remaining concise and informative. Authors are encouraged to craft titles that capture the essence of the research without being overly descriptive or excessively long. Ideally, the title should contain no more than 15–18 words and should avoid unnecessary abbreviations or technical jargon that may not be familiar to readers from different disciplines. A well-written title helps readers quickly understand the focus of the article and improves the visibility of the manuscript in academic databases and search engines.

Author Information

Authors must provide complete and accurate information regarding their identity and institutional affiliation. This includes the author’s full name, institutional affiliation, country, email address, and ORCID identification number. ORCID is strongly recommended as it helps uniquely identify researchers and ensures accurate attribution of scholarly work across digital platforms. If there are multiple authors, the corresponding author should be clearly indicated and will serve as the primary contact for communication with the editorial office during the review and publication process. Author information should be provided on a separate title page to maintain anonymity during the peer review process.

Abstract

The abstract should provide a concise yet comprehensive summary of the manuscript. It should briefly describe the research problem addressed in the study, the methodological approach employed, the main findings, and the significance of the research within broader academic debates. The abstract should enable readers to quickly understand the purpose and contribution of the article without needing to read the entire manuscript. Authors should avoid citations, abbreviations, or detailed technical explanations in the abstract. The recommended length is 150–200 words, written in clear academic English that is accessible to an international readership.

Keywords

Authors must provide four to six keywords that represent the core themes and concepts of the manuscript. Keywords should be carefully selected to enhance the discoverability of the article in academic search engines and indexing databases. Ideally, keywords should reflect important theoretical concepts, research topics, or methodological approaches discussed in the manuscript. Authors are encouraged to avoid overly general terms and instead select keywords that accurately capture the focus of the study. Effective keywords help readers and researchers locate relevant articles and contribute to the broader dissemination of scholarly knowledge.

Introduction

The introduction should provide a clear and compelling overview of the research topic and its significance. Authors should begin by presenting the broader context of the study and explaining why the issue under investigation is important within contemporary academic and social discussions. The introduction should identify the research problem, highlight gaps or limitations in existing scholarship, and explain how the study addresses those gaps. Authors should also clearly state the objectives or research questions guiding the study. A well-developed introduction helps situate the research within relevant academic debates and provides readers with a roadmap for understanding the structure of the article.

Literature Review and Theoretical Framework

This section should provide a critical discussion of relevant scholarly literature related to the topic of the study. Authors should review key academic debates, identify major theoretical perspectives, and situate their research within the broader intellectual landscape. Rather than simply summarizing previous studies, the literature review should demonstrate how existing scholarship informs the research problem and why further investigation is necessary. Authors should also clearly articulate the theoretical framework guiding their analysis, explaining the concepts or theories used to interpret the findings. This section establishes the intellectual foundation of the study and clarifies its contribution to ongoing scholarly discussions.

Methods

The methods section should provide a detailed and transparent explanation of how the research was conducted. Authors should clearly describe the research design, including whether the study uses qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method approaches. The section should explain the participants, data sources, or research materials used in the study, as well as the procedures for data collection. Authors must also describe the analytical techniques used to interpret the data. When research involves human participants, the manuscript should include information about ethical approval or research ethics clearance where applicable. Clear methodological explanation ensures transparency and allows readers to evaluate the reliability and validity of the study.

Results / Findings

The results or findings section presents the main outcomes of the research. Authors should present their findings in a clear and systematic manner, focusing on the most important results related to the research questions or objectives. Findings may be presented through narrative explanations supported by tables, figures, or other visual representations of data. Authors should avoid interpreting the results extensively in this section; instead, the emphasis should be on presenting the empirical evidence obtained through the research process. Clear presentation of results allows readers to understand the evidence on which the subsequent discussion and conclusions are based.

Discussion

The discussion section interprets the research findings and explains their significance within broader scholarly and social contexts. Authors should connect their findings to the theoretical framework presented earlier and compare the results with those reported in previous studies. This section should highlight the contributions of the study to existing knowledge and discuss the implications of the findings for theory, practice, or policy. Authors may also address limitations of the study and suggest directions for future research. A strong discussion section demonstrates how the study advances academic debates and deepens understanding of the topic.

Conclusion

The conclusion summarizes the key insights of the study and reinforces its main contributions. Authors should briefly restate the research objectives and highlight the most important findings that emerged from the analysis. The conclusion should also emphasize the theoretical contributions of the study as well as its potential practical or policy implications. Rather than repeating earlier sections, the conclusion should synthesize the core arguments and demonstrate how the research contributes to broader scholarly discussions. Where appropriate, authors may also suggest areas for further investigation that could build upon the findings presented in the article.

Acknowledgments (Optional)

The acknowledgments section allows authors to recognize individuals or institutions that contributed to the research but do not qualify for authorship. This may include colleagues who provided intellectual input, research assistants who helped with data collection, or institutions that supported the research process. Authors may also acknowledge funding agencies, academic collaborators, or organizations that facilitated access to research sites or materials. The acknowledgments section should be concise and written in a professional tone. Including acknowledgments helps maintain transparency about the collaborative nature of academic research.

Funding Statement (Optional)

Authors should clearly disclose any financial support received for conducting the research. The funding statement should identify the funding organization, grant number (if applicable), and the role of the funding body in supporting the research project. If the research did not receive external funding, authors should indicate this by stating that the study received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or non-profit sectors. Transparent reporting of funding sources helps readers understand potential influences on the research and strengthens the credibility of the publication.

References

All references cited in the manuscript must follow the APA 7th edition citation style. Authors should ensure that every in-text citation corresponds to a complete entry in the reference list and that all references are formatted consistently. Research articles should include at least 20–30 references, with a strong preference for recent scholarly publications from the past ten years. Whenever possible, authors should cite peer-reviewed journal articles, academic books, and reputable scholarly sources. Accurate and comprehensive referencing demonstrates engagement with existing scholarship and situates the study within broader academic conversations.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be used to present data clearly and effectively. Each table and figure must be numbered consecutively and accompanied by a descriptive title or caption. Authors should ensure that all tables and figures are referenced in the text and contribute meaningfully to the presentation of research findings. Visual materials should be designed to enhance clarity and understanding rather than simply repeat information already provided in the narrative text. Proper labeling and clear captions help readers interpret data accurately and improve the overall readability of the manuscript.

Conflict of Interest Statement

Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation or presentation of the research. Conflicts of interest may include financial relationships, institutional affiliations, or personal relationships that could be perceived as affecting the objectivity of the study. If no conflicts of interest exist, authors should explicitly state that there are no conflicts of interest related to the publication of the manuscript. This statement is important for maintaining transparency and trust in the scholarly communication process.

Word Count

The Journal of Aisyiyah Studies maintains specific word limits to ensure consistency across published articles. Research articles should typically range between 6,000 and 8,000 words, including references. Conceptual or theoretical papers are expected to be 5,000–7,000 words, allowing sufficient space for detailed conceptual discussion. Book reviews should be shorter, generally 1,000–1,500 words, focusing on critical engagement with the book’s arguments and contributions. Authors are encouraged to follow these guidelines closely while ensuring that their manuscripts remain concise, well structured, and clearly written.

Submission Process

All manuscripts must be submitted through the Online Journal System (OJS) of the Journal of Aisyiyah Studies. The OJS platform ensures a transparent and traceable workflow from submission to publication, enabling efficient communication between authors, editors, and reviewers. Authors are required to upload a main manuscript file that is fully anonymized to support double-blind peer review, meaning it must not contain author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, or self-identifying notes. A separate title page must be uploaded containing complete author information, including ORCID where available. Where relevant, authors should also upload an ethical approval statement or ethics clearance documentation to confirm compliance with research ethics standards.

Peer Review Process

The Journal of Aisyiyah Studies applies a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure academic integrity and high scholarly standards. After submission, manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening to assess scope fit, baseline quality, and compliance with formatting requirements. Submissions then proceed to plagiarism screening using recognized software. Manuscripts that pass these checks are sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers evaluate originality, theoretical contribution, methodological rigor, and clarity. Based on reviewers’ reports, the editorial team will issue a decision: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject. Accepted manuscripts move into copyediting, layout, and final production stages. The typical review timeline is 4–6 weeks.

Publication Ethics

The Journal of Aisyiyah Studies upholds high ethical standards in scholarly publishing and follows the principles promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors are expected to submit only original manuscripts that have not been published elsewhere and are not under consideration by another journal. Ethical publication requires transparent authorship practices, accurate reporting of data and methods, and the proper acknowledgement of all sources used. Any form of plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, or unethical research practice is unacceptable. Authors should also disclose conflicts of interest, funding sources, and ethical approvals where applicable. These standards are essential for maintaining trust in academic communication and protecting the integrity of the journal’s scholarly record.

Plagiarism Policy

To protect the integrity of scholarship, all submissions to the Journal of Aisyiyah Studies will be screened using plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin or iThenticate. The journal evaluates similarity reports carefully and distinguishes between legitimate overlap (e.g., references, common terminology, methodological phrases) and unethical copying or insufficient paraphrasing. Manuscripts showing excessive similarity—typically above 20%, or with significant overlap in key sections such as the introduction, literature review, or discussion—may be returned to authors for revision or rejected, depending on severity. Authors are encouraged to ensure proper citation practices and to paraphrase responsibly. The journal reserves the right to request clarifications, corrections, or supporting documentation when plagiarism concerns arise.

Open Access Policy

The Journal of Aisyiyah Studies is committed to expanding global access to knowledge and therefore operates under an open access publishing model. This means that all published articles are freely available online without subscription barriers, allowing readers, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers worldwide to access, download, and read content without cost. Open access supports wider dissemination of research findings, increases citation potential, and strengthens the journal’s international visibility. The journal’s open access policy aligns with its mission to promote scholarly conversations on progressive womanhood and gendered social transformation across diverse contexts. By removing paywalls, the journal seeks to support equitable access to scholarship, especially for readers in resource-limited institutions and Global South research communities.

Copyright and Licensing

The Journal of Aisyiyah Studies applies a publishing policy that respects authors’ intellectual ownership while enabling broad scholarly sharing. Authors retain copyright of their work, meaning they remain the legal holders of the content they publish. At the same time, articles are released under a Creative Commons license, which permits readers to share and reuse the material for academic purposes with proper attribution. This licensing approach supports open scholarship, encourages knowledge circulation, and ensures that research can be used responsibly in teaching, research, and policy discussions. The journal will clearly indicate the specific Creative Commons license applied to each article and expects users to follow the attribution requirements stated in the license terms.

Article Processing Charges

The Journal of Aisyiyah Studies is committed to inclusive scholarly publishing and currently does not charge any submission or publication fees. Authors may submit manuscripts, undergo peer review, and publish accepted articles without article processing charges (APCs). This policy is intended to remove financial barriers to publication and encourage participation from a wide range of scholars, including early-career researchers and researchers from institutions with limited funding. The journal believes that academic quality should be determined by scholarly merit rather than authors’ ability to pay. If the journal’s fee policy changes in the future, all updates will be communicated transparently on the journal website and within the submission guidelines.

Archiving Policy

To ensure long-term accessibility and preservation of published scholarship, the Journal of Aisyiyah Studies maintains an archiving strategy through digital preservation systems and institutional repositories. Archiving protects journal content against data loss, technological change, and platform disruptions, ensuring that articles remain available for future researchers and readers. The journal aims to support sustainable academic publishing by using reliable preservation methods, including repository-based storage and compatible archiving protocols. Where possible, the journal may integrate with recognized archiving networks such as LOCKSS/CLOCKSS or national preservation systems. This commitment to preservation strengthens the journal’s credibility and supports indexing requirements by ensuring the stability and durability of its scholarly record.
